ACT TESORO:
Now is the Time to Get Involved
If cap & trade legislation becomes law as the U.S. House has recommended, in the decades ahead, atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions – which arise from any combustion process, must be reduced by 83% by 2050 in the US, even if they are not required in nations like India and China. China already exceeds US emissions of this gas, and India is on track to do so soon. The effects of this home-grown change on the lives of everyday Americans will be profound. Gasoline could cost almost a dollar more per gallon, or an additional $12 to $15 per fill-up – over and above today’s U.S. average of $2.63/gallon or $40.00 per tank-full.
For families, rural Americans, low and fixed-income citizens, school systems, and businesses, this will be too tall of a hurdle. While Congress grants “allowances” to soften the financial impact for some energy users, refiners and drivers are notably and severely short-changed. This is unfair, and it must be remedied before any climate law can be enacted.
There’s still time to tell our elected officials what’s wrong with this legislation, and to fix it before it’s too late. Now is the time to do this! Please join us in communicating these concerns to Congress.
